Best Laid Plans….

Written by on 21st July 2012 in Blog POSTS with 3 Comments

In life, and in design, we make plans and sometimes it all goes sideways.  This past week I had to give up plans of six small pot lights in my new office because the joists are so close together supporting the garage + car + 10 years of very important junk hovering just above my sweet little head. Sad :( . The cost of having an electrician install them and the cost of putting humpty dumpty back together again was gonna be more than 2K and I know that I better be selling ALLOT of custom pillows if that’s going to happen.  So the plan is done, scrapped, Finito. A new approach is required.

This is what I have to work with – Light Junction Box in the worst possible spot  for my furniture plan.

Or maybe I should switch the floor plan to this?

I do not want to keep a flush mount fixture there so I figure my options are a track / rail system or a discrete swag from the existing box so a pendant will illuminate my desk. Hmm.

The only up side to this conundrum is that I can shop a little…but the budget is tight peeps…And I will be in Vancouver next week for work so maybe one of these little fellas could work? Pics are the links as usual

CB2.

$79 and $99

…or Budget Friendly Rona or McLarens?

$39 and $79

Obviously I am drawn to a wide range of  fixtures…but there is nothing traditional about this space so don’t let the chandelier fool ya!  Any thoughts on what a cash strapped, outa time designer should do to make the new office fabulous? All suggestions welcome!! But hurry…I’m up against the One Room Challenge clock! tick tick tick. Can you hear it?

  1. I can hear it! Aak! I love that light from Rona, I never thought of popping in there. I am looking for something for my kitchen! As for my living room, I have a glitch as well, Ikea no longer sells the fabric I was planning on using for slipcovering my dining room chairs – aaahhh….now I need to find a similar fabric for a similar price – $8/m!

    Good luck with your room!

  2. Cool looking lights. I would not mess with supports that are holding a car over my head!
