Holiday Decorating Tip #3 – Songza

Written by on 23rd November 2014 in Blog POSTS with 0 Comments

songza

My tip this week is to select some great tunes to get you in the mood to decorate. I’m obsessed with Songza (a free Music site) on my computer and my iPhone and I can tell you that the xmas playlists they have ARE the soundtrack to my holiday season!

If you’re like me you have had various colour phases with your tree decor… This year my goal is an Authentic Christmas  and so I picked the most special ornaments at random from each of my whims from Christmas past … I also enlisted an impartial third party to hang the ornaments (my two nieces) so you can be guaranteed that anything they ever made me out of macaroni is featured front and center. It’s cool, and I like it.  The only thing I would do differently is to tell them at the beginning This is NOT a race:)DSC_1214[1] 600 pix

This year I also opted to use my summer garden globe lights instead of my little Christmas strings. Those old Christmas ones were half burnt out anyway, and I like the slightly retro feel of the big fat bulbs.

So there it is, my happy random and big bulb Christmas tree for 2014. My nieces selected the teen pop Christmas playlist from Songza while we did this holiday decorating…I didn’t know Beiber wasn’t cool anymore. Now I’m off to get the sparkles off my face.

Stroke of Genius

Last spring I challenged my husband to select a piece of art from 20×200 because I didnt want to dominate our walls with my own selections.  One of his choices was this one by artist Jorge Colombo, but the intersting part is that he painted it on his iphone using the Brushes App.

Jorge Colombo

The great thing about this medium is that the artists whip up these pieces in less than 20-30 minutes, and they all agree that the convenience and the fact that there is no clean up make it an artists dream! I like this one by Stef Kardos of the Pasadena Club.

Not all the paintings are smudgy like these that Ive featured…I just happen to like this style. Check out the app for yourself, or google around for your favoutite iphone artist! Have a great weekend.!

Of course there’s an app for that!  I spent some time last week gathering  information (old school) on local flea markets and sales to compile a comprehensive page on the website…but of course…sigh…. there’s an app for that called Yard Sale Mapper, and it’s free!!

The app uses craigslist and other forms of adverstising to locate the sales and sync the information with your geographic lcoation…Check it out! It just told me about 7 sales this weekend within 20 miles of my desk. sweet!

Happy Hunting! (I’ll leave my page up for those shopaholics without access to life saving apps!) Check back for updates as the season gets going!
