May 25th – Subway Sign Workshop

This is a pic of one that I hung gallery style…I love the local flare – Next week I’ll post pics of a couple signs I made for two kids rooms. Really fun!

This workshop is a little different from the last…

  • 1st Select your street names – (approx 6) Choose your favourite local spots, your favourite vacation destinations, all the streets where you have lived? It is endless. Send me your choices before May 15th;
  • 2nd I’ll show you the technique and you set the text and paint it…don’t worry I’ll bring everything you need;
  • It’s up to you…it can be cute, pretty, rough or industrial…and I’ll be there to walk you through the steps so you go home with a one of a kind sign that you love!

Local Etsy Shopping – fave shop No. 1

Big_Etsy_LogoLately I’ve been seeing some fantastic shops on Etsy that are located right here in Victoria, BC. So, I figured I would dedicate a few posts in the next week or so to showing you some of my favourite local Etsy shops and maybe you’ll see something you like too?! My first favourite is called 1001 Treasures.

The graphic artist behind these lovely posters and cards is Sabine who is originally from Germany and now lives right here on Vancouver Island.  She has been selling on Etsy since 2008 (wow!) and her selection of antique style prints is stunning. If you’ve ever watched Sarah Richardson and Tommy sift through botanicals and wanted some for yourself…this is the shop for you! Pics are the Links to her store

And, don’t go thinking that these are only for stuffy old traditional applications. Here’s a great contemporary example from Tobi Fairley which shows  how antique prints look fantastic in a casual eclectic interior.

BC Wine Selections – Local Love

IDSWest 2012 – That’s A Wrap

I headed to Vancouver this weekend to attend the Interior Design Show (IDS) and it was a super great time.  I checked out some exhibits…

 Noticed a trend in colourful bathroom fixtures. Lots of colourful tubs…

The One of a Kind side of the Show was Hands Down my favourite part of the show….I spotted a cool girl named Nicole who made pillows Vancouver Style…

And was impressed with local Victoria designer Steve Guan from Fine Line Creations…

As always the Live Edge display was terrific…

And Vancouver favorites ‘The Found and the Freed’ were there with some of their treasures…

Without a doubt, my favourite part of the trip was the BLEND 2012 after party where I got to mingle with the likes of Tommy Smyth, Suzanne Dimma, Mark Challen and all the Design and Lifestyle Bloggers from Western Canada. It was a great party and they did a wonderful job hosting all of us with their sponsor IKEA Canada. Super BAD picture, but it’s the only one I took. sorry.

I discovered some new friends & blogs and found many kindred spirits in this little blogging community. Loved it.  A new one I’m reading this week is called Garden Therapy. You should check it out too!

Spruce Collective

A cool new store just opened in Abbotsford, BC and I had to tell you about it.  5 cool chicks who get their kicks from vintage finds have opened a collective called SPRUCE.  Their grand opening will be later this month so check back with them if your obsessed with finding treasures…like me….and apparently… like them!  I’ll have to try to get myself to Abbotsford soon…Road Trip anyone?  Good Luck Ladies!!! Western Living – Designer of the Year

Western Living Magazine has just announced the Designers of the year winners for 2012. You gotta be from Man, Sask, AB or BC. Oh, and you have to rock your design category!
