American Dream Builders – Sunday

Written by on 22nd March 2014 in Blog POSTS with 0 Comments

I have been looking forward to this new show and this weekend is the premiere. It’s called American Dream Builders, on NBC.

This new reality series showcases the talents of the most accomplished designers and home builders in America by pitting 12 worthy contestants against one another in a high-stakes competition designed to push everyone’s creative reach. The show will celebrate creativity and style while revealing magazine-worthy home transformations.

With each weekly episode, two teams will take on a brand new project and be asked to redesign and renovate the space from the inside out – all in a matter of days. From Spanish to Tudor to midcentury modern, the designers will be expected to produce sweeping home renovations that bring a fresh, modern sensibility while remaining true to the home’s innate charm and design characteristics.

Go to Your Happy Place / Room

Written by on 3rd June 2013 in Blog POSTS with 3 Comments

Kids are Cool.  This weekend I had the pleasure of using my decorating skills to make a little girl very happy and guess what…it made me happy too! If you’ve been following along there is a second room too. But I’m not finished yet – so I’ll reveal that one in a week or so.  In the meantime here’s what I did (with mom’s help of course)

This Room is all about re-use and recycling of furniture and accessories and I made the pillows and bedding to get a custom colour combo and perfect patterns for less…

I’ll go over some of the products and techniques for the room throughout the week. If you have any questions – just drop me a line. Here’s what I did…

And as always…   If you want some help making the place you live a place you love...Contact Me…I can help!

Bryk House on HGTV

I’m totally loving a new show on HGTV Canada called Bryk House (for my American cousins it is A Bryk At A Time on DIY/HGTV US).

The show follows new designer and mom, Danielle Nicholas Bryk through the trials and triumphs of running her own design business. She’s adorable and talented and I’m hooked!

Here’s two of my fave projects so far. Youthful, eclectic, casual and budget friendly (sorta).

Missoni Homewear

Written by on 26th July 2012 in Blog POSTS, Design & History with 2 Comments

This Miss – Oni Need One of these to be over the moon happy!! Check them out from Provide in Vancouver

Did you know that Missoni’s first fashion collection appeared in Milan in 1958?

In 1981 Missoni collaborated on their first textile and home collection which was the beginnings of the Missoni Homewear Collection.

Missoni is a family run company and while the products, colours and patterns have been celebrated the world over they have always considered it art.

A collection of glass wear (vases etc) was also developed in 2006.

I don’t know about you, but I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Target in Victoria (Tillicum in 2013, Hillside in 2014) because they have a line of Missoni products that caused quite a shopping frenzy down south last season. Everybody loves a good old shopping throwdown at Target right?! :)

I really want to renovate my bathroom in white and use these Missoni Towels! Love!

Design District Studio – Open House

Written by on 9th March 2012 in Blog POSTS with 1 Comment

Last night I did something I’ve wanted to do for awhile, I went to the Design District Studio at 1826 Government Street. I wanted to check it out but I admit I wasn’t quite sure what to expect ….so I went with an open heart and the first smiling face I encountered was that of the beautiful and friendly Danisha Drury; one of the owners along with her business partner Donna Morrison. I talked with Danisha about the selection of fabrics (of course fabric freak) they carry and the resources the studio offers for local designers…like me!…maybe like you too?

You might recall that I posted awhile back about a new Victoria based design show featuring Danisha and another local designer; Amy McGeachy.  Clearly these ladies have a lot going on but I was impressed that they opened the studio doors to everyone and were so nice to talk to. Meeting new industry people is sometimes tough and competitive but this was a breeze. Victoria is SOOO Nice!

I’m going to try to take advantage of some of the resources and networking opportunities they have so I can be an even better designer and provide an even better level of service. Congratulations Design District Studio! You’ve successfully created a stylish destination and a valuable resource for the Victoria Design Community!

Don’t forget about the Home Show this weekend peeps! Click here for the deets.

Canadian Home Builders Association Show – March 9th-11th

Written by on 20th February 2012 in Blog POSTS with 0 Comments

Wow, I can’t believe it has been a year.  Peeps if you are contemplating a renovation this year then you should make your way to the CHBA Show March 9-11th at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre.  I attended this show last year so I could scoop up deals on counters, tile and other building essentials.  Check out the vendors, they are local and there are always incentives that can save you money!

I’ll be there checking things out, and I suggest anyone thinking about projects this year do the same! The Celebrity guest this year is Jillian Harris…and if you are currently watching the Handyman challenge on HGTV or ever watched the Bachelor you know just who she is.  Check out her blog too. here
