Vintage Eclectic in Victoria

Written by on 13th November 2013 in Blog POSTS with 2 Comments

I’m super excited to share the new pics of a finished project in Victoria, BC.  This one is full of vintage treasures and has a modern eclectic vibe  that suits the young family who lives here perfectly.  I loved working on this place.  Many thanks to my amazing clients who totally got what I was laying down, my assistant Kelly and to Leanna Rathkelly, the talented photographer who captured these great shots!  These Pictures also mark the official beginning of my professional profile on Houzz - so be sure to check that out too.

Closet Case

Written by on 30th August 2012 in Blog POSTS with 4 Comments

I don’t bill myself as an organizer per se, but I am a hungry designer looking for chances and challenges. So I’ll take that closet case and make it fan-frickin-tastic!

hmmm…. where to start, cuz it doesn’t look like this folks! (seriously who has this?)

Closets By Design

It is actually pretty modest, but this helps keep the wardrobe in check right?!  Red mark ups show where the existing hanging racks are located. Pretty Basic. (Pics to come soon)

So, I’m going to do what anyone would do…scour the earth for pretty pictures of closets that I like, figure out the commonality and then bring that design board to life!  I found a couple already…

Uh huh, OK, liking the white so far, and oooh the colour coordination. I dig it.

OK the centre island is a bit much but I’m liking the open feeling, and again with the white! I’m taking notes….this is going to be fun!

More on this closet case as it goes… What’s the deal with your closet? Is it a showpiece or shameful? Or somewhere in between?

Pillow Stalk

Written by on 6th July 2012 in Blog POSTS with 1 Comment

I don’t often post pretty pictures from magazines but since I am madly sewing a bunch of pillows (and YES USING FABRIC IN MY STASH! Fabric Hoarders Rejoice!) Pillows have definitely been on my mind.  And since not every example of my sewing prowess turns out exactly as I had it in my mind. I thought it would be good to remind myself what I’m aiming for and share some truly masterful combinations of pillows that I liked enough to snip.

For me, the humble pillow, poduszka in Polish as my countrymen would say, is the cherry on top of a furniture arrangement…and who doesn’t love a cherry?

I love the colour, personality and fun a mix of pillows can inject into a simple classic piece of furniture.  This photo to the left – Eric Cohler from House Beautiful – is a great example of incorporating the ethnic trend into a classic yet contemporary condo.

The colours don’t have to be crazy, nor do the patterns, but I do think that the pillow should have a little jazz, a little risk, a little spark… otherwise it is a missed opportunity to add another layer of “cool” to the space.

So maybe next time you are browsing pillow fabrics, or in a store pondering which one(s) to buy think about taking a risk, think about making a statement. Think about Mixing it up!!

This living room to the right by Nina Freudenberger is from TradHome.  Great mix of colour, neutral and pattern. Just right!

The Pillow by its very nature is already safe. You know, …. it’s filled with fluff…so soft and comforting. Why use a safe cover? This cool Boston condo pictured below is from New England Home and is yet another great example of the mix of colour and pattern that makes an impact. Love this one!!

One of my all time fave designers is Thom Filicia. I’ve posted before about his ability to Mix and how I love it! Here’s a fearless example below of why I adore his work. As you can see…these pillows are something anyone could find in a local decor store (or two) and mix together for a similar effortless look.

Happy Mixing Peeps! Don’t let me come over and see those cushions that came with your couch!! I’ll be upset for realz! – Oh and an update on my custom pillows coming this summer!!

Be bold, you won’t regret it!
