Desk Chairs – Girls Rooms

Written by on 25th April 2013 in Blog POSTS with 2 Comments

If you’re following along with my progress on the kids rooms I can happily say that we had some great weather this past week and my client and I have been busy painting the beds and the desks with chalk paint. An update with pics on that soon!  In the meantime the fabric has arrived (awesome) and I am on the hunt for two chairs for their new desks, and since we have spent so much effort painting them…I cannot put a swivel chair near them and watch them SPIN and BANG and SCRATCH up their mom’s hard work…so stationary chairs win!  But now a harder decision…the wishbone chair is the style fave…it is so great!! but the metal ones are a great price….tough decision for mom! These chairs are from overstock.com

Poster Perfect

Written by on 7th September 2012 in Blog POSTS with 2 Comments

I have two girls bedrooms on the horizon so I’ve been tucking away ideas. Loved these retro posters by Megan Romo from Logophilia. The Princess Bride is the older of the girls favorites! I love it too!

The site even had a great Zombieland option for my husbands office re-decoration project that I plan to tackle this winter.  He’s a nerd, but I love him:)

Kid Stuff

One of my most exciting projects at the moment is the re-decoration of a newborn baby boys room and that of  his toddler sister.  As often happens, Baby Mamma and I started out talking about the boys room ,looking at some options and then we added the girls room to the project too. I love that!

Today I ordered some art from Art.com and Etsy which are invaluable sources when working with out of town clients. Using sites like these I can show exactly what I like for their room and they can choose yay or nay.  I also like them for the affordability because in a baby’s room you are realistically choosing pieces that are likely to change in the next couple years.

You can click below to see how the boys room started with a request for an Orange and Brown scheme and then morphed into something a little less Orange and Brown :)

Here’s a couple other favourite things that I will run by Baby Mamma soon and see what she thinks

One of these Candy Lamps I found at Fab.com?

Or this Flokati Rug from IKEA that would make floor time more cushy.

Baby Mamma wants a little less Brown and Orange and a little more of the colour mix from the folded blankets pictured below.   Just goes to show you that inspiration comes from anywhere! Requirement for this little dude’s room is still soft and  mellow…we are gettin there!

DeLightful

I’ve been researching kids rooms again for some upcoming projects and have found some nifty lighting options at Urban Outfitters that are cute enough to share.

One catches moonlight or dreams, the other captures the sun. Charming way to keep a light on with no baby nightlights in sight!

I love these circus looking letter lights for a childs room or playroom installation.

This fabulous playroom was deigned by Jeff Andrews and featured in the premiere issue of Trad Home in April. I immediately sent it to my clients and friends with kids and have done a mood board and shoplist for anyone who would like to re-create a room using it as inspiration.  Of course you can always contact me for help too!

The paint colour really makes this room special I think it resembles Benjamin Moore 2035-40 Stokes Forest Green.

Baby Talk

Written by on 27th February 2011 in Blog POSTS with 0 Comments

My favourite baby is little miss Ellie and I can’t wait to see her on our visit this week! She has been referred to as the little giraffe because she’s so long and as a result the giraffe theme really took off!

I am hopelessly unqualified to blog about all the necessary gear that the baby needs, but I will take a few moments to highlight some giraffe related items that might suit the sophisticated nurseries of all the little giraffe’s out there.

Keep in mind you should not incorporate all of these elements into one room, and if you have any questions about which ones…I am just an email away:)

Starting with a neutral or white room is key, why not place a giraffe patterned rug on the floor?

Is this Art? Or a hook? You decide…

Pillow for your rocking chair?

This lamp from Sarah Richardson’s show is very cool!

A change of hardware might be right for you?

The artwork you choose will make a style statement. For example:

Photography lends a contemporary & calm feeling to the room:

Modern lends a colorful and graphic element to the room:

Animated art adds a softer, playful and colorful element to the room:

Mix up your fabrics and try to stay away from literal patterns and jungle themes. I like these…

If you do find one fabric that is really cute, make a pillow, maybe even a floor cushion for you to sit on…but just one!

Decorating your baby’s room has to be one of the most fun in terms of decor.  I hope all you lucky moms and dads have fun with it!!
