New Look for a Little Nook

Written by on 10th October 2014 in Blog POSTS with 0 Comments

I recently designed this little nook in a small vacation condo for a tween girl.  She knew she wanted it to be white on white with fluffy bedding and not too much colour. The nook is dark without any windows, or a door for that matter, so it was a tall order to make it both function and look like a cool tween girl bedroom. I bought the little desk online and added brass castors to the legs so it can be easily moved out of the way.  This was necessary, because that’s her Murphy bed along the back wall. The great guys at Murphy Wall Beds of Canada installed this double bed perfectly and let me tell you, it was tight! I simply styled the desk and walls with a slightly bohemian flavour and placed mis-matched antique hooks all over the other wall (because there is also no closet) for hanging clothes and bags. She can roll up jeans and T-shirts in the cubbies and most importantly she has a little corner of the place that is just hers.

Twins Room – Double Take

Written by on 8th February 2014 in Blog POSTS with 2 Comments

Here’s some pics from an install this weekend for twins. These 4 year old cuties didn’t really see the need for their bedroom to change, and on reveal day I heard one of them say, as the family walked with anticipation up the stairs to see the results, …”I hope it looks the same.” LOL Soo funny!  This project was a total renovation which I will share later. This pretty space used to be an open loft at the top of the stairs which we enclosed and blew out a wall to make the whole room larger and include the play area with larger closets. Lucky Girls!

DSC04517x600As usual, I love sourcing great deals and quality pieces from Used Victoria.  This french provincial dresser was a find, and the mirror was the clients, I chalk painted and waxed it.

IMG_4969x600I used some etsy art from a Canadian photographer Raceytay

DSC04495x600Their beds and bedding are identical. Eliza Beds from Pottery Barn Kids and Duvet Covers, Restoration Hardware. I custom made the throw pillows for them.

DSC04528x600This desk is a favourite place for them to colour and I’m told epic battles between the Frozen Characters and My Little Pony minis have also been witnessed.

DSC04533x600I covered these stools in a pale blue velvet piped with mint green.

DSC04511-1x600This soft shag rug in the play area get’s lots of use and the pretty glass drop light fixtures add a little princess glam to their room.

Pretty Pillows

Written by on 5th February 2014 in Blog POSTS with 1 Comment

I’m obsessing over pretty pillows and little girl bedrooms at the moment. This weekend I’m doing another install of a little girl bedroom and I want the sheets and pillows to play nice together. This pic from John Robshaw’s line is pretty fantastic and totally something I would choose for a girls room…

My client has a softer side, and she’s going for the soft and pretty look – like these linens from Restoration Hardware.

resthOf course, she’s the boss so we are definitely going pretty and soft, but I’m mixing in some patterns and a little colour too…you know,  just to keep things interesting.  My foundation piece for the linens is this pale violet duvet cover from Restoration Hardware.

Come back next week and see if I was able to pull it together?

Some French Elements

Written by on 21st September 2013 in Blog POSTS with 1 Comment

I recently started a bedroom and playroom design project for twin girls….I know! Lucky right!  The scheme is a light and pretty french inspired look with lots of soft colours, painted furniture and a generous amount of linen.  My approach to this room incorporated the need for excellent beds that the girls can grow into and so mom and I chose a linen covered bed from Pottery Barn kids to start things off.  The paint colour is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter and I have been busy sourcing all the elements of this room that will give it that effortless french style.  Here’s my design board incorporating some french elements.

Stay tuned for updates in October when this one should all come together…

Little Big Girls Room No. 2

Written by on 15th June 2013 in Blog POSTS with 3 Comments

This is the room for the older of the sisters…her colour palette is a little more bright  than pastel…but she’s still girly.  In this room we painted the thrifted bed and desk with chalk paint, used a vintage window, Chinese lanterns and some random frames and a wooden box to create some interest on the wall. Just like with her sister, I made a custom subway sign for her and sewed all the bedding and pillows. She really loves it and so do I!

Later this week I’ll post some details on products and projects in this room… for now just enjoy…

Go to Your Happy Place / Room

Written by on 3rd June 2013 in Blog POSTS with 3 Comments

Kids are Cool.  This weekend I had the pleasure of using my decorating skills to make a little girl very happy and guess what…it made me happy too! If you’ve been following along there is a second room too. But I’m not finished yet – so I’ll reveal that one in a week or so.  In the meantime here’s what I did (with mom’s help of course)

This Room is all about re-use and recycling of furniture and accessories and I made the pillows and bedding to get a custom colour combo and perfect patterns for less…

I’ll go over some of the products and techniques for the room throughout the week. If you have any questions – just drop me a line. Here’s what I did…

And as always…   If you want some help making the place you live a place you love...Contact Me…I can help!

Desk Chairs – Girls Rooms

Written by on 25th April 2013 in Blog POSTS with 2 Comments

If you’re following along with my progress on the kids rooms I can happily say that we had some great weather this past week and my client and I have been busy painting the beds and the desks with chalk paint. An update with pics on that soon!  In the meantime the fabric has arrived (awesome) and I am on the hunt for two chairs for their new desks, and since we have spent so much effort painting them…I cannot put a swivel chair near them and watch them SPIN and BANG and SCRATCH up their mom’s hard work…so stationary chairs win!  But now a harder decision…the wishbone chair is the style fave…it is so great!! but the metal ones are a great price….tough decision for mom! These chairs are from overstock.com
